ANTHROPOLOGICAL AND THEOANTHROPOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES FROM THE CONSTANTINE THE GREAT TO NOWADAYS

Section for History of physical education and sport at the FIEP, together with the Department of theoretical and methodological subjects at Faculty of Sport and Physical Education, University of Niš and the Association of Teachers of Physical Education of Serbia organized a scientific conference "Anthropological and theoanthropological aspects of physical activities from the Constantine the Great to nowadays”. The conference was held in Niš on 31st August until 2nd September 2011. Research work was carried out in five plenary sections during all three days.
The conference was attended by 71 participants from 7 different countries (Serbia, Serbian Republic, Bulgaria, Romania, Macedonia, Slovakia and Italy). 47 scientific papers were presented at the conference. Besides the scientific work the conference had a rich social program. Conference participants were awarded gifts, insignias of Niš, a seal with the image of the Emperor Constantine, seal of Naissus and monogram of Christ, the symbol that Constantine ordered the Christian orientation. The conference participants made the second day of the trip to Devil's Town (Djavolja Varoš) and Kuršumlija where they visited the Church of St. Nicholas from the 1165, the foundation of Stefan Nemanja, the founder of Nemanjić family. The conference was closed in the last day in work environment, by exposing of the youngest participants, PhD students of Faculty of Sport and Physical Education. At the end, the President of the Organizing Committee, prof. Nenad Živanović, officially closed the meeting by estimating it to be very successful and innovative. He also reminded all participants that this was just preparing for a congress to celebrate 1700 years of the Edict of Milan which will be held in 2013 in Niš, too.
